Yerma

Yerma at Young Vic

Why see Yerma?

a visionary re-imagining

Olivier-nominated actress Billie Piper stars in this searing drama of one woman's unyielding desire to become a mother in the face of her husband's utter indifference. Based on Federico Garcia Lorca's 1934 tragedy, innovative Australian director Simon Stone re-imagines the play, moving the action from rural Spain to contemporary London.

Although she is no stranger to the West End, Yerma marks the Doctor Who star's Young Vic debut, and her first appearance after last year's surprise hit comedy for the National Theatre, Great Britain.

WHEN, MY CHILD, ARE YOU GOING TO COME? The story of Yerma

Newly married Yerma longs for a child, and spends her time trying to strengthen her weak husband to fulfil her dearest wish, assuming the moment will come soon. But after years of failing to conceive, after trying everything possible, she comes to realise he does not share her mania. More so, he does not even want a child and never will. For Yerma, this realisation comes too late, her obsession has overtaken her senses and now there is no way out, but chilling violence.
