Hetty Feather, everybody's favourite, flame-haired foundling is brought to life in a sparkling new stage adaptation, based on Jacqueline Wilson's best-selling novel, set in Victorian England. Penned by Tracy Beaker writer Emma Reeves, this show is full of splendid action and brilliant dialogue.
Abandoned by her unmarried mother at the Foundling Hospital as a baby, young Hetty Feather must negotiate a tough upbringing with adventure and the sting of broken promises. A tale that will captivate children and young teens alike, Hetty Feather is one heroine that everybody will engage with.
Throughout her short, hard life, Hetty Feather has known that somewhere, out there, her true family for her exists. Fostered until the age of six with her foster siblings, she must return to the grim surroundings of London's Foundling Hospital, where she was left as a baby, but not before experiencing the delights of a travelling circus, and the tragic conequences of her actions.
Constantly falling foul of the cruel Matron "Stinking" Bottomly, she escapes one night into London, where adventure, drama and her mysterious circus friends await her. After being rejected by the circus, she once again flees to a bad neighbourhood in London, but is rescued in the nick of time from an unsavoury character, by another girl her age.
In true Wilson style, Hetty Feather is not afraid to tackle themes such as death, broken promises and illegitimacy, but frames them in such a way as to be understood universally, without the heavy-handed saccarine.
Starring the exceptionally talented Phoebe Thomas as Hetty, and a multi-talented cast (complete with circus skills), this lauded adaptation will prove a treat during the summer holidays for young and old alike!
