Playwright Bryony Lavery brings Robert Louis Stevenson's epic tale of skullduggery to the stage in a thrilling new adaptation just in time for Christmas, that has gender-swapped the lead character for a more modern audience.
Jim, the innkeeper's granddaughter one night opens the door to a mysterious stranger, who pays her to keep a look out on his behalf during his stay. When a grizzled man enters coveting the contents of the sailor's sea chest, this encounter will prove to be the start of a thrilling adventure involving murder, mutiny and marauding buccaneers.
Bryony Lavery is best known for her work written from a feminist perspective, which has in part inspired to write the part of Jim as a female protagonist. Having written five plays for National Theatre Connections youth theatre scheme, she is also a contributor for the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn.
