Why see The Little Dog Laughed?

Broadway's revenge on Hollywood

Directed by the multi-talented Jamie Lloyd, an all-star cast including Tamsin Grieg, Rupert Friend and former Bond girl, Gemma Arterton star in Douglas Carter Beane's Tony award nominated, hilarious Hollywood satire, about greed, hypocrisy, sexuality and manipulation.

What is The Little Dog Laughed about?

Mitchell is an actor whose career is about to take off big time. Blessed with good looks, charm and an appealing sense of humour, he's the perfect leading man. Diane, his acerbic, stone hearted, Hollywood agent, knows this, and is very happy about it. She also knows that he's gay. She's not happy about that. Nor is Diane happy about the sleazy, ultra ambitious, rent boy that she finds in Mitchell's flat, and who Mitchell is plainly smitten with. And as for when Mitchell announces to her that he "wants to come out" - no leading Hollywood actor is openly gay!

Besides, Diane has plans to turn a hit play about two male lovers into a movie, once she's persuaded the writer to make a little tweak. Give the piece a happy, heterosexual ending. And Mitchell is perfect for the lead role, it'll make him a star, not to mention a lot of money. But if Mitchell chooses to tell the truth about his sexuality, his career will be in tatters, and if the writer refuses to make the tweaks, no one will want to make the film. Diane cannot, will not, allow either of these things to happen.

Excellent

I went to see this play recently. I wanted to see how Tamsin Greig was doing. All four actors did brilliant work. How do they learn so many lines and keep performing at such a level day after day?! My brain probably couldn't cope! The set was relatively simple but the support staff had to get everything just right: spotlights, moving the bed, etc. I couldn't see any flaws. The story moved along pretty fast and I had to give my full attention to keep up. The actors seemed to be having fun. Someone should throw pants on stage at the end, maybe with some flowers inside. ... Read more

Excellent

This play is well worth seeing. It highlights what the real world is like. We may have civil partnerships but privately a lot of people still find homosexuality hard to deal with. If people want to be succesful in their careers they still often have to hide the truth about their sexuality. We need more plays like this in the West End. ... Read more

Hilarious

This is just brilliant. I laughed so much. The cast is great. Especially Tamsin Greig who is a comic genius. Clever, simple staging and fizzy, sassy writing. We had a fantastic time. The rest of the audience did too. Lots of applauding, cheering and laghing throughout. ... Read more
